My Creative Space - Even MORE Buttons!

If you’ve ever visited my blog before, you might know that I’m a fan of buttons. And whats not to love?! Ranging from kitsch plastic funniness, to beautifully ornate vintage loveliness, there is a button for every occasion!

If you've never adventured here before, on Thisel and Bean so far, there have been buttons on cards, buttons as decoration, buttons as badges and broaches, buttons as eye candy, practical use buttons and many more.

So, this week as my machine is on a well deseverd break (its at the shop having the sewing machine version of a spa weekend) I have been ummming and arrring about what to do with my very bored hands. I was about to do another button sort (what can I say...its a compulsion – they are so pretty and you always find some gorgeous ones you had forgotten about!) when an oh so obvious thought popped into my head – I could MAKE some buttons!!! Perfect!

So i did....

Now I’ve never made buttons before, and admittedly it was all a little bit fiddly, but I’m pretty pleased with how they came out.

The Buttons all packaged up

Next time I’ll probably experiment with a few different types of material though: I used a reasonably thick cotton this time which created a bit of roucheing/folding around some of the edges (can you see that in the picture below?) which I would prefer to avoid in future, but I think its probably a trial and error thing.

Nevertheless, I am now hooked – so expect plenty more buttons in the future!

And whilst you are over that way pop in on Kootoyoo - the original creative space to see where things are taking her these days...

  2. They are gorgeous! :) I particularly love the top ones. Thicker material can be made a wee bit smoother if you damp it slightly. Thinner material can be more tricky to work with, but is just as pretty too. Have fun with them - I LOVE covered buttons. I think there should be more of them in the world.

  4. Beautiful! I love buttons as well. I inherited a big jar of vintage ones from my great grandmother and I've been know to spend way too much time sorting through it!

  5. These are gorgeous - I'm very impressed. My sewing machine went on a spa weekend about a month ago and I keep forgetting to pick it up from the shop!

  7. I think they've turned out brilliantly. You've got an eye for pattern and it really shows in how you've selected and placed the fabrics. Love your little tags too! Nice one, Kt, and how cool to find a new craft love! x

  9. Lovely buttons. And I love the tags too. I was thinking of making some covered buttons to go on some new tops I'll be making. I'll have to do a bit of research to find out how small the button kits go down to.

  10. I love your buttons! It is so addictive making them, I am hopeless, and can't stop, so my girls have a HUGE collection of hair bobbles to choose from (and so do I, actually!)

  11. Your buttons are so pretty. I have a small collection of buttons, some I've had since I was just a little girl, so understand the joy that comes from sorting them! :)
