This weeks creative space - Patchworkiness

So I hope you all had a lovely Valentines day.  We stayed in with curry, video games and 'The Wire' box set (yes we are VERY behind - only on season 3!). It was awesome!

I got back on track with some material crafting at the weekend after finding these lovely materials.

I loved the patchworkiness(!?!) of them.

I originally bought them with a little girl I know in mind. I was going to make her a summery dress, or something similar, but I’ve changed my mind on that and am going to look for something a bit more floral instead.

Instead I dug out some other materials I had, cut up strips and did some form of random patchworking.

(My favourite crafting beverage (green tea) in my favourite mug)

Colours are all over the place on my photos this week. Dont quite know whats going on with that!

Now I know there’s quite an art to patchwork (particularly when quilting) as fantastically displayed by Karyn on her Make Something blog (I love her use of colour) and Blair on Wisecraft, but that demands a bit too much planning ahead for me at this point so I tend to go a bit more free-form. I LOVE picking up random strips of material, throwing them together and seeing what they turn out to be as a whole.

So I’ve ended up with these...

I’m waiting for inspiration to strike as to what to do with them next. Last time I patchworked I made these pan/pot holders but I want to do something different this time.

I think I might turn the horizontal strip patchwork into a couple of pillows, but I have NO idea for the other one. If you have any suggestions I’d love to hear them!

  1. I'm a tea drinker too when I craft :) I'm loving the color & pattern combinations you picked ... can't wait to see what you come up with .... I vote pillows :)

  2. Fabric basket! lots of free tutorials out there on them, I love mine for putting my scraps in when hand sewing.

  3. teh fabrics looks so warm and cosy. My vote is for some cushions

  4. I love your patchworking, very pretty and great fabric choices!

  5. am liking that cuppa - nice patching - looks totally beyond me.

  6. I love that fabric, it's gorgeous! You could make oven mitts with the other piece, maybe.

  7. Thank you for your comments ladies! Right cushions/pillow things it is then. If i get time I might just try one of those fabric baskets. I've had a look around and you are right Rosalind - there are a TON of tutorials. I'll let you know how I get on.

Thank you for visiting Thisel & Bean and taking the time to leave a note. I really look forward to reading your comments ...
